How Artificial Intelligence Is Changing Education

How Artificial Intelligence Is Changing Education
Artificial intelligence is becoming part of everyday education. Students can use AI tools to explain difficult ideas, practice languages, summarize information, generate questions and receive immediate feedback.
Teachers are also experimenting with AI. They may use it to prepare activities, create examples, organize lesson plans or adapt materials for different students.
Universities are using AI in teaching, research and administration. A UNESCO IESALC study published in September 2026 examined 200 higher education institutions in 19 countries across Latin America and the Caribbean. It found that 87% were already using AI in at least one area, but only 26% had a formal AI strategy.
This difference creates an important challenge. Technology can spread faster than institutions can develop rules for using it.
AI can make some educational activities faster and more personalized. However, education is not only about producing correct answers.
Students need to learn how to analyze information, develop arguments, solve problems and think independently.
UNESCO has therefore emphasized a human-centered approach to artificial intelligence in education. Its student framework includes areas such as AI ethics, techniques and applications, responsible use and critical judgment.
The important question for schools and universities may no longer be “Should students use AI?”
A more useful question could be:
“How can students use AI without allowing AI to do the thinking for them?”
The answer will influence classrooms, universities and education systems around the world.
Key Idea

Cause and Effect
Because
Apresenta uma causa.
Students need new skills because AI can generate information quickly.
Therefore
Apresenta uma consequência.
AI is becoming common. Therefore, universities need clearer policies.
As a result
Significa como resultado.
Students can obtain answers very quickly. As a result, teachers may need to redesign some activities.
Observe:
Cause → Effect
AI tools are becoming widely available.↓Therefore, education systems need to reconsider how students learn.

Answer Guide
1. They can use AI to explain difficult ideas, practice languages, summarize information, generate questions and receive feedback.
2. Teachers can use it to prepare activities, create examples, organize lesson plans and adapt materials.
3. 87%.
4. Because AI adoption is happening faster than some institutions are developing policies and strategies for its use.
5. Critical thinking, independent thinking, analysis, problem-solving, argumentation, creativity and human judgment.
Possible direction for the academic task
A strong answer should not simply say that AI is “good” or “bad.” It should explain a responsible relationship between student and technology.
For example:
AI may help students understand difficult information, but students should remain responsible for evaluating and developing their own ideas.
